Introducing the Hybrid LUMEX Avance-25
Macomb, Michigan — January 30, 2015 — PTI Engineered Plastics expands into the additive manufacturing /3D world with the procurement of the Lumex Avance-25. The Lumex is currently the only machine in the world with the unique capability of manufacturing complex molds and parts by direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) without the need for secondary finishing processes. This one machine — one process will produce a finished surface to that of a conventional machined component in a single setup.
PTI will utilize the Lumex hybrid technology of additive manufacturing plus high-speed milling to grow high precision finished mold inserts. Some of the added benefits of the Lumex are: The 3D conformal cooling channels which will shorten the cooling cycle reducing mold time in the press. Gas venting is another plus; the sintering can be precisely control, thus reducing gas traps. With the Lumex deep slots can be machined eliminating the need for EDM process.
