HOUSTON, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Millar, Inc., medical device manufacturer and OEM solutions partner, is pleased to announce the availability of a wireless pressure platform for integration in medical device technology. This wireless platform enables unique OEM partnership opportunities for innovative device development in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurology and urodynamics applications.

Millar's Wireless Pressure Platform is designed to integrate with existing medical technology to improve the quality of patient care by removing extraneous wires. The platform design is flexible and can be customized to meet different product specifications.

Through Bluetooth data transfer, the wireless device can connect to existing monitoring systems through the paired dongle while maintaining a wire-free environment for the patient. Millar's Research and Development team has extensive experience developing wireless devices and leverages innovative technology from the company's relationship with the University of Auckland.

The current platform design is flexible and can be customized to meet various product development specifications. From digital read-outs directly on the telemeter to data connectivity to existing hospital monitoring systems, the versatile applications all deliver real-time, accurate pressure measurements. "When the signal is crucial, making it reliable using a wireless connection is the right thing to do," states David Budgett, Millar's Director of Innovation.

Millar's novel platform can provide improvements in patient care by eliminating the need for additional wires and allow for greater patient mobility. When considering the application for continuous intra-compartmental pressures in trauma patients, real-time feedback is critical for those patients who may be unable to provide symptomatic feedback for discomfort in their extremities. A catheter inserted with wireless, continuous pressure read-outs reduces the need for multiple pressure measurements and can provide immediate feedback to the care team if pressure levels begin to elevate. Such preventative measurements can avoid loss of limbs from undiagnosed compartment syndrome.

Millar's nearly 50 years of MEMS pressure sensor integration manufacturing experience and design expertise for compliance to blood pressure measurement standard AAMI BP-22 and IEC 60601, provide potential partners with excellent technology competence in invasive pressure monitoring for innovative device development.
