Leading Contract Manufacturer Announces Second Expansion in Three Years for Advanced Manufacturing Facility
Bethel, Vermont – In response to its growing medical device business, advanced contract manufacturing and injection molding company GW Plastics, Inc. announced today the expansion of its Royalton, Vermont Manufacturing and Technology Center. GW Plastics has broken ground on a 30,000 ft² expansion to accommodate the growth of its thermoplastic injection molding and medical device contract assembly business.
GW Plastics will be adding a new 13,000 ft² Class 8 cleanroom capable of housing an additional 30 injection molding machines. The expansion also includes an additional 17,000 ft² of warehousing space. GW Plastics expects to add over 30 new jobs and invest over $10,000,000 in construction, new technology, and equipment. The expanded facilities will accommodate immediate growth for GW Plastics’ thermoplastic molding business and will allow the company to expand affiliate GW Silicones’ cleanroom molding operations.
GW Plastics first established its Royalton, VT facilities in the late 1980s with the relocation and expansion of its Mold-Making Division, followed by its Process Development Center. GW Plastics further expanded its Royalton site with a thermoplastic molding facility in 1999 and silicone molding facility in 2008. Today’s announcement marks the fifth expansion in Royalton since GW relocated and expanded its Mold-Making Division. GW Plastics Royalton was the company’s fourth thermoplastic molding facility to launch after its headquarters in nearby Bethel, VT and advanced
operations in San Antonio, TX and Tucson, AZ.
GW Plastics has grown their manufacturing footprint in Royalton into the company’s main Manufacturing and Technology Center. Today the 24-acre campus houses GW Plastics’ Product Development Center, Process Development and Training Centers, Mold-Making Division, GW Plastics Royalton molding facility, and GW Silicones. The Manufacturing and Technology Center houses some of GW Plastics’ most sophisticated technology, including 3D printers for plastic and steel as well as robotically-assisted injection molding and contract manufacturing. With the latest xpansion, the Manufacturing and Technology Center will cover 90,000 ft² of advanced manufacturing space.
This expansion comes soon after news of another expansion at GW Plastics’ Sligo, Ireland facility. GW established its first European location with the purchase of Avenue Mould Solutions in 2017, and announced in February with Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar an expansion in response to increased demand in its medical device and drug delivery business. Both expansions in Ireland and Vermont will enhance GW Plastics’ precision mold-making, advanced injection molding, and contract manufacturing capabilities around the world.
