Validated Medical Coatings and Surface Finishing
Since 1948, The Electrolizing Corporation of Ohio has offered the highest quality metal finishing and surface treatment for the medical device, orthopedic, spinal, dental, and ophthalmic industries. We are medical coating specialists, with revolutionary proprietary products like MEDCOAT 2000™ for medical instruments and devices, and our Ti-Med 2 and Ti-Med 3 Titanium Anodizing for implants and components.
MEDCOAT 2000™ Biocompatible Thin Dense Chromium Plating
MEDCOAT 2000™ is a biocompatible, precisely controlled, low-friction, thin dense chrome plating for instruments and devices.
What Can MEDCOAT 2000™ Do for You?
MEDCOAT 2000™ survives repeated autoclaves, minimizes friction, and prevents galling and seizing. It offers a high surface hardness of 68 to 72 Rockwell C that helps prevent cosmetic damage to instruments, and can significantly extend instrument life. MEDCOAT 2000™ provides 14 times greater wear resistance than uncoated stainless steel, and will not flake, peel, or chip. It provides a uniform finish across your entire instrument line, and enhances the appearance of laser marking.
USP Class VI certified for biocompatibility including testing for acute system, intracutaneous, and implant toxicity. MEDCOAT 2000™ was also ISO Tripartite tested for hemolysis, mutagenicity, pyrogenicity, and cytotoxicity. The coating has also been tested by an outside lab for RoHS compliance.
MEDCOAT 2000™ is a proven coating for all types of orthopedic and spinal instruments.
Titanium Anodizing for Coloring and Mechanical Benefits
Ti-Med 3 – Type III Color Anodizing of Titanium
Our Ti-MED 3 color anodizing process allows the implant manufacturer to color-code their plates, screws, and devices to simplify part identification during surgery. In medical and dental applications, color coding for size allows instant recognition of needed parts when time and accuracy are critical. Orthopedic implants, dental implants, medical instruments and device components can be coded with standardized or specialty colors to increase efficiency during surgery.
Color anodizing of titanium does not alter its biocompatible properties. The color is not a dye or coating, but the optical effect of an oxide layer created by the anodizing process.
Ti-Med 2 - Type II Titanium Anodizing to the SAE AMS 2488 Standard
Originally developed for the aerospace industry, Ti-Med 2 also has many benefits for the medical industry for both devices and implants. It offers increased lubricity, fatigue strength, corrosion resistance, and prevents galling. These characteristics lead to significant improvements in implant performance and durability. Ti-Med 2 anodizing penetrates the titanium surface resulting in very little to no dimensional changes after processing. Ti-Med 2 is only available in a distinctive grey color, and is biocompatible.
Aluminum Anodizing to the MIL-A-8625 Standard
The Electrolizing Corporation of Ohio offers aluminum anodizing validated to the MIL-A-8625 standard. We offer both Type II Conventional and Type III Hardcoat anodizing using a non-burning sulfuric anodizing process. We are experts in the anodizing and coloring of surgical sterilization trays and lids and other medical devices. Class 1 clear, and Class 2 dyed finishes are available with standard in-house colors such as blue, red, green, gold, grey, and black. Custom colors may b...
