On the 30th of April, 2015, Arjowiggins Healthcare will be celebrating the opening of its multi-million dollar investment in biomass boilers for the production of energy.

With this investment, the company has moved from non-renewable fossil energy, to locally sourced raw materials from well managed forests and industry.

This move to greener sources of energy also meets the expectations of demanding medical device manufacturers interested in optimizing the environmental impact of the products and communicating to the market on this level of performance.

From Arjowiggins Healthcare prospective, this is only one more step in the direction of more eco-friendly products and processes, together with:
- the 100% dedication to healthcare packaging products to minimize downtime, cleaning, and waste in between batches
- the vertical integration of web making, coating, printing, and slitting under one roof to decrease travelling and converting steps of materials
- the ISO14001 certification to demonstrate performance of the industrial organization in handling natural resources and protection of the environment
- the development of FSC mix pulp certified products to meet the highest standards of wood-based natural resources and local communities management
- the launch of several eco-designed and biodegradable packaging solutions to market.

From a customer point of view, it is also a very differentiating asset when it comes to packaging materials and how eco-friendly they are.
The demonstration of performance does not only focus on product end-life through recycling, land filling, or incineration, but on the entire product life cycle, encompassing the raw materials that are being used, the conditions of manufacturing that are in place, and the different ways in which the product can be disposed.

Cellulose-based webs have always offered the advantage of being made of renewable sustainable raw material resources.
The most recent developments have added to it new certifications (FSC Pulp, ISO14001 compliance) new means to optimize eco-performance in production (biomass energy, waste control in production and converting steps) as well as products (lower substance, more efficient output materials).
