HS Design announced today that it was selected as a supplier to a finalist for two 2013 Medical Design Excellence Awards.

Gladstone, NJ (PRWEB) April 03, 2013

HS Design (HSD) announced today that it was selected as a supplier to a finalist for two 2013 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA). The coveted award program is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The two supplier finalist categories are: In Vitro Diagnostics for the BioNano Genomics’ Irys and the Rehabilitation and Assistive-technology Products Category for the Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System. This year’s supplier nomination is HSD’s fourth in just two years—after ultimately winning two MDEA supplier awards in 2012.

In the In Vitro Diagnostics category, HSD won for the BioNano Genomics’ Irys Genomics Platform. Irys reveals genome architecture in its native state, thereby adding a completely new repertoire to the genomics tool kit. The Irys System allows researchers and clinicians to access meaningful biological information that is disrupted or completely lost when samples are analyzed by the methods used today such as next-generation sequencing or microarrays. Earlier and more effective disease diagnosis translates directly into significantly lower treatment costs, less invasive diagnostic procedures, and more effective and successful outcomes. HS Design (Gladstone, NJ) teamed with its longtime partner, Spartan Medical (Strongsville, OH) for the design, engineering and beta launch of the platform.

HSD was also recognized in the Rehabilitation and Assistive-technology Products Category for the Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System, manufactured by Arrayent Health LLC, dba Ambio Health. This product is used to monitor patients with chronic diseases in their home. The System wirelessly and automatically sends readings from health meters such as blood pressure, blood glucose, weight scale and motion sensors to the web-based Care Portal used by patients and their authorized care partners. Remote health monitoring has been shown to significantly reduce hospitalizations and emergency room visits in patients with chronic diseases. HS Design (Gladstone, NJ) partnered with Ambio Health on the design and engineering of the system.

“Having won Medical Design Excellence Awards for the past two years, our team still shares in the excitement of being named a Supplier to a Finalist,” said Tor Alden, Principal of HSD. “As one of the leading medical design competitions in the country, being recognized by the MDEA is an incredible achievement. It’s rewarding to receive this level of recognition by key experts in the industry, including our peers.”

Celebrating their 15-year anniversary, the MDEA (http://www.MDEAwards.com) is the medical device industry’s premier design awards competition and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. Entries are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features, including innovative use of materials, user-related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional medical attitudes or practices. Judges also consider features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives.

Finalists in each of the competition’s 10 categories were officially announced in the April issue of Medical Device and Diagnostics Industry (http://www.mddionline.com) magazine. The winners and their suppliers will be announced on June 19, 2013 at the 15th Annual MDEA Ceremony, held in conjunction with the 30th MD&M East event in Philadelphia. HSD will be at booth 2660 at MD&M East.
