HSI manufactures FEP heat shrink and fluoropolymer tubing for all fields medical and commercial. The additional uses for FEP tubing can be found in the aerospace, electrical, chemical, optical, and automotive fields. Manufacturing focus is placed on product engineering and manufacturing processes to ensure the highest quality, i.e. laser gauges and ultrasonics for measuring, a high level of product features, and the most efficient manufacturing processes possible—lean manufacturing and JIT. HSI produces a range of .005 to .020” walls for FEP heat shrink tubing to be used as a mold for custom catheters assemblies and custom extruded tubing.
We use state of the art in-line gauging to insure the highest quality manufacturing process. HSI can produce clear and colored high yield products to increase your manufacturing bottom line profit. Materials processed include: FEP, PFA, ETFE, THV, and products are custom FEP heat shrink tubing, along with fluoropolymer single lumen tubing and multilumen tubing. We are ISO 9001:2008registered.
HSI has developed a process to manufacture FEP heat shrink tubing that exhibits 5% or less longitudinal growth at full recovery with a smooth, glass-like finish. Because of the wall thickness at expansion, a rapid shrinkage and heat transfer to the parts being fused may occur during processing. One of the advantages is to assist with the reduction of outgassing due to overheating. In addition to uniform compression that results in a tube’s radial direction, the tubing’s longitudinal control prompts linear consistency for improvement of finished product yield. HSI provides the FEP heat shrink necessary for the reflow of thermal bonding required for the fabrication of catheter assemblies. These types of assemblies include but are not limited to multidurometer, delivery devices, guiding devices, and micro-catheters.
The tubing and balloon are assembled over a PTFE mandrel and the heat shrink tubing is positioned over the bond area. Heating the bonding area by direct contact with the shrink tubing while using cooling air to protect the balloon enables the user to apply a constant compression force around the melted balloon neck and shaft. This causes the materials to flow together into a single polymer structure and produce a smooth, glass-like tapered finish at the bond area.
