GW Plastics, a leading global contract manufacturer to the healthcare, automotive safety, and consumer/industrial markets, today announced that it has been named the 2013 Deane C. The winner of Vermont’s most prestigious business award was announced by Governor Peter Shumlin at the kickoff of the 29th annual Vermont Chamber Business & Industry EXPO in Burlington.
Named for the former Governor of Vermont, the Deane C. Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award was created in 1990 by Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce to recognize and honor Vermont’s outstanding companies. Award criteria include:

  • Growth in sales or employment
  • Commitment of company resources for participation in community projects
  • Encouragement of employees to be involved in community events.
  • Recognition of the importance of the environment to the state as a natural and economic resource.
  • Addressing employee concerns/needs to create a positive work environment for all employees.
  • Nominated businesses must have been based in Vermont for at least 10 years

Accepting the award on behalf of GW Plastics’ 300 Vermont associates and 900 associates worldwide, Brenan Riehl, President and CEO, expressed how closely the company’s mission and values mirror the award criteria. “We are honored to receive the 2013 Deane C. Davis Award. I thank Governor Shumlin, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, and Vermont Business Magazine for recognizing GW. This award is a reflection of our steadfast commitment to our core values, our talented workforce, and the trust our customers have placed in us over the years.”

During the last two decades, the company has expanded four times in Vermont, investing millions in equipment, facilities, and training, and doubling its Vermont employment. In 2012, GW Plastics reaffirmed its commitment to Vermont with a $3,500,000, 15,000 square foot state-of-the art addition to its GW Silicones division in Royalton. GW Plastics expects this expansion, as well as the launch several innovative, multi-million dollar medical device programs in its Bethel and Royalton locations, to result in high-tech job opportunities for Vermonters..

GW Plastics also takes its commitment to environmental sustainability seriously. Intrinsic benefits, as well as real financial savings, have led GW to embrace sound environmental stewardship in all of its locations. GW Plastics has completed a number of successful sustainability initiatives in the areas of Energy Reduction, Water Use Reduction and Waste Reduction and is a member of the Green Suppliers Network, a federally funded program to facilitate the establishment and implementation of "Lean and Clean" manufacturing techniques for manufacturers.

Riehl adds that GW is proud to play a significant role in helping to strengthen Vermont’s economy while being a responsible steward of its environment. “Our committed Vermont-based ownership, supported by an experienced and highly engaged workforce, has proven to be a winning combination for our company, state and environment.”
